Police Charge Man After Pursuit At Lake Macquarie 9 May

A man has been charged after a pursuit in Lake Macquarie last night.

About 10.45pm yesterday (Thursday 8 May 2025), police were patrolling Oxford Street, Gateshead, when they attempted to stop a vehicle.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated; however, was terminated a short time later.

Road spikes were deployed on the Pacific Highway, Belmont, and officers initiated a second pursuit, which was again terminated.

A short time later, officers pursued the vehicle to Croudace Bay Road, Valentine, where the alleged driver was arrested with the assistance of the Dog Unit.

The 51-year-old man was taken to Belmont Police Station, while the passenger of the vehicle fled the scene and is yet to be located.

He was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse.

He was refused bail to appear before Belmont Local Court today (Friday 9 May 2025).
