Man Charged With Drugs, Ammo Possession in Bathurst

Police have charged a man with prescription drug and ammunition offences near Bathurst.

About 7.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 20 May 2025) officers from the Chifley Police District – with the assistance of the Tactical Operations Unit – executed a Firearm Prohibition Order at a home on Greville Street, Kelso.

A 29-year-old man was spoken to at the location. It will be alleged that the man resisted officers and a Taser was deployed.

It will be further alleged that the man was found in possession of a quantity of unauthorised prescription medication.

A search of a vehicle at the location also allegedly located a quantity of ammunition.

Police also located a homemade firearm at the property. This has been seized for forensic examination.

The man was arrested and taken to Bathurst Base Hospital where he was later released into police custody and conveyed to Bathurst Police Station.

He was charged with possess prescribed restricted substance, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear at Bathurst Local Court today (Wednesday 21 May 2025).

Investigations are ongoing.
