Firefighters Ignite Storytime at Corowa Library

Corowa Library firebrigade

The Corowa Library was buzzing with excitement on Friday, June 13, as it hosted a very special Storytime featuring the brave team from the Corowa Fire Brigade. This unique event served as a perfect follow-up to 'Thank a First Responder Day' on Wednesday, June 11, recognising the invaluable work all first responders do to keep our community safe.

More than 40 eager children and their families gathered to meet local firefighters Desi and Dylan, who generously took time out of their busy schedules to share insights into their vital role. The session was not just fun, but also highly educational, teaching essential fire safety lessons, including the importance of calling Triple Zero (000), the 'Stop, Drop, and Roll' technique, and how to crawl on the ground to escape smoke and heat.

The highlight for many young attendees was undoubtedly the chance to get up close with a real fire truck and even hold the hose! The Corowa Fire Brigade also gifted special helmets and activity packs, inspiring many 'little firefighters-in-training' among the crowd.

Federation Council Mayor, Cr Cheryl Cook, expressed her gratitude for the event.

"It is absolutely wonderful to see our community engaging with our local heroes from the Corowa Fire Brigade," Mayor Cook said.

"These events are incredibly important, not just for building community spirit, but also for instilling crucial safety knowledge from a young age. We are immensely thankful to Desi and Dylan for their time and dedication."

Mayor Cook further highlighted the long-term benefits of such initiatives.

"Programs like these, facilitated by our fantastic library team, play a vital role in educating our youngest residents about fire safety in a memorable and engaging way," she said. "Empowering our children with this knowledge is an investment in the safety and resilience of our entire community. Well done to all involved."
