Domestic Violence Charges, Ayr

Officers from the Ayr Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have charged a 35-year-old man following an incident in Ayr earlier this month.

On May 16, it is alleged a man threatened a woman known to him with a firearm at a Brandon address.

No one was injured during the incident.

The woman reported the incident to police on May 21.

On May 22, police arrested the man at the intersection of Queens Street and Railway Street and seized a gel blaster.

The 35-year-old man was charged with one count each of contravention of a domestic violence order (aggravated offence), breach of bail condition (domestic violence offence), possess utensils or pipes and threatening violence - discharge firearms or other act (domestic violence offence).

He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court today, May 23.

Detective Inspector Damien Smith said police acted quickly to apprehend the alleged offender.

"We are continuing to take a zero-tolerance approach to domestic and family violence in our communities," Detective Inspector Smith said.

"It's important that while we hold perpetrators accountable, we also support victim-survivors and protect them from further harm.
