A Development Application has been submitted to the Burnie City Council for enabling works at the new Burnie Courts Complex site.
The Tasmanian Government is delivering a replacement Burnie Courts Complex as part of its 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future.
The replacement Courts Complex will be located at 100-106 Wilson Street in Burnie, ideally located on a corner block adjacent to the Burnie Police Station and near client-related services, which will support improved court operations and security.
Attorney-General Guy Barnett said this project will help revitalise the Burnie CBD and deliver jobs and investments for the North West, with local businesses to benefit from increased trade both during construction and into the future.
"The new Burnie Courts Complex will improve access to justice in the North and North West, by providing contemporary fit-for-purpose infrastructure for clients and stakeholders," the Attorney-General said.
"The construction phase will also bring a hive of activity to the Burnie CBD, supporting jobs and the local economy.
"Initial preparation works have begun on site, with completion anticipated in coming weeks, ahead of the more extensive enabling works beginning.
"The next stage of works will include the demolition and removal of existing buildings and infrastructure at the Wilson Street site and preparing the site for the construction of the new Courts Complex.
A Request for Tender for a contractor for enabling works will be released in coming weeks, with an appointment expected to occur after the Development Application has been approved by the Council.
